Flowers from the Yard

Our yard is full of day lilies, bee balm, and wildflowers.  I am always grateful for the previous owners' green thumbs!  Without theirs the yard would be pretty bare.  Our yearly visitor of a young male turkey is back and comes by to raid the bird feeder.

This summer is going by too fast and I have not gotten anything done!  Most of my time has been full of caring for our diabetic cat Georgie - she was very ill from mismanaged diabetes but is turning the corner and seems to be stable.

But then the heat is sapping what little is left of my energy so I have not been as active hiking this year as in the past.  This is going on week number three of temps int he high 80s or low 90s.  Not the norm.  Hope everyone stays cool and has a pleasant weekend!

Warren Wilson College Trail

This is a great easy trail  to take your dog along like we did.  The trail follows along a creek to our left with farmland to our right.  We let Madoo off leash and he had a great  time fetching sticks.

We are participating in Our World Tuesday.

Watauga River in Spring

Taken last month along the Watauga River near Boone, NC.
For more Weekend Reflections click here.

I was visiting a friend  who lives in the area and all of this was close by -
a lovely walk through farmland and along the river.

View from Flat Rock

Hiked this trail a few weeks back.  It runs off the Blue Ridge Parkway and is a moderate hike to the top and down.  Looking towards Grandfather Mountain.

Flash Back Friday - Lake Lure

From spring 2014 - also processed to look like a watercolor.  When I get impatient for spring to arrive I love to drive down about 1000' to Lake Lure from my home. The temperatures are warmer and the plants are further along in spring than at my house.

I am taking part in Weekend Reflections

Throw Back Thursday - Hickory Nut Falls, Chimney Rock

I seem to have lost my direction for this blog.  I am posting more on Facebook under Carolina Mountains - see the side bar for the link.  I don't want to give it up entirely so I will post photos from around the area like this. I took this in 2014 but processed it differently for Throw Back Thursday!

For Skywatch Friday - the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC.  I processed this to look like a watercolor.  Wishing y'all a great weekend!

Rain, freezing rain, snow and sleet fell last night and this morning in the mountains.  Some of the trees at the lower elevation of our valley are covered in ice but the temps are rising slowly.  Be careful out there folks!

Mountain Skies

This winter has been a gloomy dark one but without snow - just a lot of rain.  I took this from the Grove Park Inn in Asheville overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains.  The sun had just peaked through the clouds for a brief moment.
