With all the rain we have had int eh past months I am surprised I have not seen more rainbows.  I saw this as I was coming out of the grocery store and the sky lit up for a short while.  Looks great enlarged!  Hope you all find your pot of gold!

Drummer Girl Busker

These were taken at the Bele Chere festival in Asheville this past weekend.  The Silver Drummer Girl is a busker or  street performer that has been performing in the area for a number of years.  She stands on a platform in the street, still as a statue until someone puts a tip in her bowl and then she drums on her drum - often startling the tipper.  For more info on her visit Silver Drummer Girl.

Didn't get any other shots for my photo a day so our neighbor's cat Jack will be the one today.  He is a lovely cat with such beautiful eyes.  Most days he is down under our house in the crawlspace hunting.  We don't have any mice this year for sure!

Old Church

This old church dates from the 1800s and sits on a high hill with a graveyard next to it.  Today there were cows in the pasture next door wondering what I was doing over the fence!  I was having a tough time taking shots - sometimes the shot I have in mind when I start is not the one I end up with!

Purple Shadows

This is taken of the woods behind my house.  I love the shadows and light on the trees - I just heightened the saturation to give the colors more  oomph!

Uh Oh..Missed a Day!

Somehow I lost track of days here and missed one or two?  This is Snowball sound asleep with his head on the screen porch door!

Downtown After Five

Went to a concert downtown to see a friend play.  Very hot night and I was not able to stay long - I needed to cool off and sit down!  Took these two shots - one of  the band and these two very different women in the audience.

Barns and Sunflowers

The top photo was my main entry for the 365 project.  We have an organic farm in town with a produce stand on the honor system.  They also grow and sell flowers.  Always a great place for photos!

My second favorite photo opp spot in town is this old farm - the barn looks wonderful in all seasons ad has so much character.

Striped Cat

Minnie is actually solid black but when she was sitting in the sun coming thru the window, I noticed the blinds cast a stripe pattern on her.  I used the first pic for my 365 photo a day  but I like the paws one too.

Black Mountain Welcome

Black Mountain is a old resort town  billing themselves as the Front Porch of the Blue Ridge with a huge red rocking chair as its symbol.  This year they asked artists to paint a number of chairs to put out along the streets for use and display.  Some are pretty cool.

Window boxes, planters and Rose of Sharon shrubs grace every nook and cranny of this tiny town.  Many shops are housed in historic buildings and offer locally hand made items, antiques and food.  The old Depot is a craft gallery and the train is open for viewing.

Portrait of Yoko

Didn't get inspired much today so I took some shots of my cats.  This is Yoko who is 20 years young going on 21.

Still rainy and overcast but I got this shot of the larch in front of the house - love the textures of the bark and the green leaves behind.

Drove to Black Mountain for brunch and took this as the clouds rolled over the peaks.  Getting tired of rain shots so hope the sun comes out soon.  Anyone want some rain?

Rain, Flowers and Chipmunks

We had a misty overcast day on Sat. but today is a downpour.  Guess I should have enjoyed yesterday more. In between downpours, I took the pic of the black eyed Susan in the woods behind me.  I have been trying to do this - focus on one flower and let the others be blurry.

This chipmunk was headed for the dish feeder on the porch when I opened the door - he froze in place so I reached over for my camera and took a few shots before he got up enough nerve to run!  They don't usually come so close to the house.

Low Clouds

Was not able to use my right arm yet so I used a pic I took at work the other day of the clouds settling in on the Smoky Mountains just before sunset.  Make it bigger for the full effect.

My arm is much better each day so I should be taking pics again.

Looking Glass Falls

Had to drive to Brevard for a doctor appointment  yesterday and this waterfalls is right next to the road about 20 minutes from my appointment.  I had to go since I knew we would see a spectacular flow of water with all our rain.

A walkway zigzags down from the road to these steps to another walkway.  Years ago you used to be able to walk behind the falls but now they do not allow it.  I have a pic of my husband behind the falls from then. It was well worth stopping!

Photo of the Day - Sweet Darby

Well, it is still raining and I am tired of taking pics of wet flowers for the photo so I sat Darby by the window and shot off a few shots of her.  We don't get much sun in the house during the summer months as the angle is too high so it is hard to shoot without a tripod.

This pic went over big with the photo club!  What do you like about it?

Storm Clouds

On my way home from town I pulled over to take a series of shots at this dairy farm.  I just loved how the clouds loomed over the mountains where I live.  I only had time for a couple of shots when it began pouring hard! Bignify for full effect!

Damselfly and Lily

Love the wings - so transparent.  I followed him around the yard with my camera for days  and he would not stay still or let me near enough for a shot.  This day he seemed to pose for me  like he knew I wanted a photo.

Our yard is lined with lilies of all colors and shapes.  This is my favorite - a double curly lily!  More lilies to come.

In Memory...

The tiny town of Montreat sits at the foot of towering Mount Mitchell not too far from my home.  I had errand to run (and allergy pills to get) so I stopped to take a few pictures.

The town consists of Montreat College and Conference Center mainly and is a summer retreat for many with hiking trials and a babbling creek flowing from Lake Susan on campus.  With all our rains, the water was flowing strong.  Apparently they had postponed their 4th of July celebration until Sunday so it was all going on at once!

At the entrance to town is a small mausoleum and memorial garden.  I noticed the roses siting on the mausoleum wall still wet from the rain.  A sweet and sad photo - in memory of all our loved ones who have crossed over, both four and two legged.

Kids Playing

My 365 project photo for today - our home overlooks our neighbor's pasture where he keeps his goats, ponies and donkey.  These kids were huddled around the cable for the telephone pole in between showers.  The one standing up seems to be licking the cable!

I also took this one of one of our day lilies in the yard - like how the colors came out. The bit of white on the left seems to be an insect nest of some sort.  I didn't see it until after I took the pic.

Snowball Getting Love

Snowball just loves my husband and he looks like he is in heaven getting petted.  Snowball had reoccurring UTI's and got blocked a few months ago, resulting in a hospital stay of several days with a catheter in him.  Our vet said no more dry food so he can lose weight and not have any more bladder issues - it worked.  He is slim and trim and feels fine!

Spiraling to the Sky

Another 365 photo.  This Larch tree sits in front of our house and is impressive in size.  It makes my husband nervous and he wants to cut it down before it falls on us but I love it.  We did cut some of the lower branches off to keep it from being too weighed down.

According to neighbors it is about 40-50 years old.  I tweaked the color a bit in processing to make it more  vivid.

Cute Kids - Round Mountain Farm

We went to an open house at a goat dairy farm last weekend and it was a great event to take photos.  I got some good ones as well as had fun petting goats. We could hold baby goats, pet some (they were very friendly) and even milk one. The top pic is the one is posted for my 365 project. I may use some of the others when I am at loss for a pic that day!

My husband bought raffle tickets for a cheese making class and won!  He is thrilled. A new career for him maybe?

The farm has several breeds of goats - one is called Lamancha and has no visible ears giving them an strange appearance!  One visitor kept asking what was wrong with these goats.

Shadows and Lines

Day 7 of my 365 photo project.  This was taken at the same park where the children were playing in the fountain. The park is fairly new and is set up for many types of events including concerts.  It is quite lovely and sits in front of the courthouse and town hall.

Summer Fun!

One of the many parks downtown offers a water fountain for the kids.  Water shoots randomly from holes in the ground tiles and the kids enjoy running around guessing which one will spray them.  Adults seem to have as much fun too.
