Falls Branch Chalet, Bat Cave

This house has intrigued me for a while. It sits on the upper edge of Hickory Nut Gorge on Route 74-A in Bat Cave, NC. To get there you have to go up and over the Continental Divide and then the two lane road plunges down into the gorge alongside the Rocky Broad River.

Just past the Gerton post office on the left this little cabin perches next to the road with the steep embankment of the gorge behind it. In rainier times the falls just roar over the rocks and down beside the house. I would think it would be scary to be there if the falls were flowing very heavy but it has survived many floods and hurricanes in the area.

It is for rent and from the looks of the web site very well cared for and with great amenities. Maybe I can convince hubby to take me there for a romantic overnight stay one weekend!

Please visit Watery Wednesday for more wet photos and Outdoor Wednesday for nature ones! Happy Wednesday!

It looks like a wonderful place to stay! Especially when the water is a bit strong — the sound would be wonderful! Good luck convincing your hubby. :)

Happy Watery Wednesday!

Great shots for OW, I would love to stay in the little cabin. Maybe you will one day?

I think it would be a little scary living right there too if the water were running more than usual. It's interesting where people choose to place their houses, risking that mother nature won't have PMS one day.

Well Hello everyone, My name is Sheila Franklin and I happen to be the owner of this sweet chalet. I would like to thank Cheri for this (life in the Carolinas) about Falls Branch Chalet. You should contact me and I will give you a nice discount. 828-275-8580 I also have a website that shows pictures from throughout the year and what we offer plus wonderful comments left by our guests.
Visit us:

I would like to respond to a couple of comments left by others here!

To: sweetnsaxy, I have a picture on the website showing the falls at full blast when we had an enormous recordbreaking rainfall. The design and flow around the property keeps the water from overflowing and culverts help as well. It was also built 60 years before I was born so where people choose to build depends on the needs, back then their was no plumbing so they used the springfed waterfall behind the house.

sherry@lavendarfields, We do have a few fun novelty flying bats in the house but none living around the house. The name Bat Cave comes from a large carvern about 8 miles away on a private piece of property. Once a year Bats migrate their from the midwest.

and Victoria, When we bought the house their were two satelite dishes on the roof. You are welcome to stay and just listen to music provided from our Direct TV satellite service provided with the rental. Zen is my favorite!

For all the guests who contact me from discovering our vacation rental through Life in the Carolinas just let me know and I will provide something extra in the house for you(Smile).

Thank you all for the wonderful comments and have the best of days! Sheila Franklin
