Icy French Broad River

With bone chilling temperatures a few weeks back the  French Broad River which runs through the city of Asheville,  began to ice over.  Since the French Broad River is a free flowing river, it has to be real cold for it to freeze.  The fast flowing current keeps it open.  We visited Carrier Park along the river after the sun had finally come out and the ice was breaking up. It was still pretty impressive!

Be sure to visit Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for more outdoor scenes!

We're snowbirds here in Florida during the winter and live in Asheville area in the summer. My son was a fishing guide too for a few years and took a lot of float boat trips down that river. That ice is rather unusual, I think. Brrrr.

Beautiful captures.

I like how the ice looks floating on the water but I'm glad it doesn't do that here.

Sorry it's so cold in your neighborhood, but it gives for breathtaking pics for Watery Wednesday!

It looks lovely, definitely chilly! Brrr!

Here we had green grass two days ago, snow yesterday, so it looks like winter now is here for the duration.

Your photos look like our creek a few weeks ago. Not now though--our weather's warmed up some so all ice and most snow has melted. I'm glad. I love the covered bridge photo at the top of the blog.
