Christmas Snow (With Photos)

(Sorry if you visited and the pictures were missing - seems like I had to buy more storage to add photos to my blog and it took all day to process my purchase!)

Looks like the bulk of the country got some snow for a Christmas gift this year!  We got 8" but just an hour west of us in the higher mountains they got over 2 feet!  We normally get 12" all season! It started on Christmas morning and was very pretty - a nice snow to walk in. Our home faces a lovely pasture with ponies and goats that belongs to our neighbor.  The ponies enjoyed the early snow but when the winds picked up and the temperatures dropped they headed for the barn and we have not seen any of them until today.

Garren Creek meanders through the pasture and follows our road for the seven mile length of our street.  Once the snow got heavier I took a walk down the street a ways to get some shots of the creek.

The snow is lovely but being house bound for three days while the DOT crews tried to plow the county out was not fun plus losing power off and on. It is supposed to be 50 degrees by Friday this week! Hard to believe. Hope you all are safe and warm until the snow removal guys get to you. And lucky you who don't have any of this white stuff!

Question for my readers - I am being told that I have exceeded my photo upload quota and must buy more storage - is this normal? Do I have to purchase more or is there a way around it? I have my photos on CDs plus on the hard drive - if I take them off the hard drive will this free me up? Thanks for your help! (Well I went ahead and bought more storage - the easy way out!)

None of these photos is displaying for me, unfortunately.

Re: the storage--I assume you mean via Google's Picasa photo albums? Taking the pics off your hard drive will make no difference to Google's servers. When you upload a photo to your blog, it goes into a folder on one of Google's servers. At least mine do.

I have A LOT of photos uploaded, about 20,000, so I've opted to pay for additional storage. I think you get extra server space pretty cheaply, though. 20 Gigs for $5 U.S. per year. Check your Google Account.

Hi Cheri; no photos uploaded for me either. I have no idea why your photos are exceeding your quota but Kea's explanation sounds most feasible. Wrap up warmly in those snowy conditions! Greetings from a Sunny South Africa - Jo

I also did not get any pictures on your blog today and have not run into the storage issue as of yet.

Oh none of the photos are displaying for me either! Is it blogger saying you have run out of storage or your pc? Is there a way you can move the pictures to a different drive? I'm probably talking nonsense but I'm just assuming it's storage space/memory is the problem? GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Oh I hope the weather calms down and I hope you don't lose anymore power! Stay warm and safe! Take care

I wish I could see your photos. I so want snow.

Are you uploading your photos at a large resolution? I take photos at 2816 X 2112 (3.09 MB) but I rescale them to 360 X 270 (82.7 KB) except for my tour photos which I leave large if visitors want to view them larger. A computer monitor cannot show a photo at high resolution so knocking it down doesn't hurt the viewing just the size of them if you want to see a larger photo. Your google account is on a server somewhere. The photos on your harddrive are not affecting that at all. You've made copies of them to your google account. You get 1024 MB of free space. It sounds like other than buying storage, you'll have to delete some photos from your Google account, or reduce their resolutions but that would be a big task.

Good luck!

I see all of your beautiful photos...I love the snow, but maybe because I don't get it where I live except in the mountains by my house!
Happy New Year!

I love looking at snow, but I don't want to live with it. We get some here in Southeast Texas once in a blue moon. It's always a treat.

It looks like you have similar weather and nature as here in Sweden.

Ah, now I see your lovely photos, Cheri!

It all looks gorgeous, but being housebound drives me crazy, so I feel for you. LOL. Besides, now that Christmas is over, let's bring on Spring! :-D

Glad I made it back. Pictures look beautiful but the road looks dangerous. Thanks for getting it fixed.

So glad I came back to see the snow photos! They are beautiful. I just love trees weighed down with snow and the creek cutting through, perfect.

The mountains look beautiful. Someday I will vacation in the Appalachian mountains. I live near the Adirondack mountains which are also beautiful.

Beautiful winter scenes, I miss living in snow country but I don't think I would heve liked it if the snow came and stayed.
I haven't run into google's limit yet, I've been trying to limit the file size of my photos by compressing them more for the blog while leaving the originals uncompressed on my hard drive. I think it is possible to remove them from Piccasa and get back some space but don't know how.

Great shots. I so wish it would snow here just once in my life. Having to buy storage for photos is new to me. I have quite a bit uploaded. I wonder if I'll be encountering that soon. :-(

I came back for your snow... it does look cold (some snow can actually look warm, but you seem to have a lot of ice with yours)
I am in the process of reducing the resolution on many of my photos since they are all for the blog, not to be printed and I am hoping that will help with keeping within the 'free' limits of storage.
