Slick Rock Country Emporium

On the way back from visiting Lake Lure, while passing through Bat Cave we noticed a sign for the Slick Rock Country Emporium. We followed US 64 and found an enchanting spot nestled next to the Slick Rock. The cottage was colorfully painted with items for sale on the porch.

Owner Becky Coleman was tending the shop that day and welcomed us inside. She explained Slick Rock Country Emporium is reviving handmade and traditional cottage industry. The shop and studio is located next to a spring fed waterfall on the site of a 19th century homestead formerly known as Slick Rock Orchard established in 1888.

Along with basic groceries, cold drinks and coffee, they have over 35 local artists and craftmakers work available for sale featuring handmade rustic furniture, pottery, folk art, jewelry, blown glass, wood bowls & carvings, soap, gourds and fabric arts.

The tiny grocery features milk, bread, ice cream, cold drinks, snacks, cooking supplies, local food products and Slick Rock Roast Coffee.

The owners believe in conserving our natural resources and donate a portion of the profits to Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, (www.carolinamountain.org).

What a great place to stop for a break, do some shopping and sit a spell next to the relaxing waterfall over Slick Rock. Hours are 10 Am to 6 PM Tuesday thru Sunday. Closed Monday. For more information and directions call 828.685.8798 or check out www.slickrockcottage.com.
