Bella's Neighborhood Italian Restaurant, Banner Elk

Bella's sits in a strip mall that would be very ordinary except for the fantastic view of Sugar Mountain from the parking lot. At about 4000 feet, just a little below the top of Sugar, you can see the ski slopes perfectly from here.

This is our favorite place to eat in Banner Elk - no question. A couple of Italian guys from the Northeast (NJ, I think) started this place in a spot where no one seemed to be able to make a go of it. They offer a wide range of Italian dishes from pasta to pizza by the slice or Chicken Parmigiana and Fried Calamari. All of it good.

If I don't get the hommade Lasagna, then I order Joe's Mussels in spicy red sauce ($7.99) with a Caprese Salad ($7.29). The mussels are fresh and medium sized served in a bowl of spicy tomato sauce with crusty bread to dip in the sauce. The salad come with Roma tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, red onions and basil and dressed with olive oil and Balsamic reduction. The mozzarella is very fresh and makes this salad!

My husband usually gets the Big D's Sausage Cacciatore Calzone ($8.99) with sausage, onions, peppers, ricotta, parmesan, mozzarella, and Island seasoning wrapped in a pizza dough calzone and a cup of marinara sauce for dipping.

The menu is extensive and we have had just about everything on it at least once. All of it was great. I love their sauce - spicey and tomatoey but in just the right amount. They offer a kids menu with spaghetti, hot dogs, grilled cheese, chicken fingers and ravioli priced from $3.99 to 4.99.

Lunches consist of panninis, club sandwiches, burgers and chicken wings. Pizza and calzones are offered all day. Desserts are wonderful especially the cannolis and tiramisu.

So if you are in the area skiing or up for the weekend, check out this place for inexpensive great Italian food. You won't be sorry.

They are open daily for lunch and dinner. The bar is directly as you come in with seating for dining and a TV screen for the bar partons. If it is crowded, take a seat here and beat the wait. Extra dining rooms for parties are to your right and the main dining are is to your left. For more info call 828.898.9022.

I've known these folks for years. The food is delicious and the people make you feel like you're a part of the family.
The Pizza is outstanding and is also sold by the slice! Each and every meal is prepared to order- so please allow time for the chefs to prepare a meal that you'll return time and time again! So come on in and meet the Fella's from Bella's and the Ladies that keep them cooking@ Enjoy!
